Andy Sachs has swapped her Chanel boots for Chanel sandals. That’s just one of the styling notes you can expect from The Devil Wears Prada 2, which began production in in the second week of July this year, and—despite years of rumours, speculation and outright refutations of a sequel from Anne Hathaway—will welcome back the Fearsome Foursome of the original cast, including Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and of course, Hathaway herself.

It was via Hathaway that we received our first look at the outfits to come in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The actress was spotted on set in not one, but five separate ensembles—all hinting that Andy’s forthcoming wardrobe will bear far more similarities to the polished casual wear of her turtleneck, dark wash jeans and leather jacket of the OG film’s finale as opposed to the ultra-feminine, high-powered silhouettes her character favours when she’s fully embraced her career at Runway.

The first, a white tank top by Toteme, worn underneath an open vest and a denim maxi skirt from Agolde, was the picture of ease—comfortable but assured. The proof was in the pudding, or rather, the footwear—not the formidable height of Andy’s transformative, thigh-high Chanel boots but the practical chic of quilted Chanel dad sandals, Velcro and all. Her media mogul uniform continued in the form of a Jean Paul Gaultier pinstripe waistcoat and trouser set, worn with pearls, pointed, block-heeled boots and a one-size-fits-all messenger bag—the ideal formula for a stylish woman on the go.

Hathaway switched things up for Andy in a Gabriela Hearst patchwork dress and bucket hat. This was, presumably, a snapshot of Andy off-duty, though the thrust of the outfit was the same: not the young woman we watched in 2006 trying to squeeze her life into a Miranda Priestly-shaped mould, but a woman who now asks what her clothes can do for her. Airy movement and breathability were not concepts Andy or any of her former colleagues would have even considered; if Runway had had a motto, it might have been ‘beauty (and success, and everything else) is pain’.

The final outfits of the day—a denim boiler suit, worn with a slouchy Valentino bag and those same Chanel sandals, along with an oversized grey suit—only reinforced the character’s new turn.
