On March 29, 2025, Angela Wong and Mark Cheng welcomed 150 guests to the Hong Kong Country Club for a wedding that radiated understated opulence, cultural depth, and modern intention. When Legacy Meets Vision
Mark Cheng, the youngest grandson of Li Fook-shu and Cheng Tien-hsi, a fourth-generation descendant of the esteemed Li family that founded Bank of East Asia and the Cheng family that is widely recognised for its prominence in international law and diplomacy, has forged his own path as a leader in impact investing. With a mission to fund ventures that uplift communities and protect the planet, Mark’s life work is rooted in purpose.
His bride, Angela Wong, is equally distinguished. The daughter of self-made entrepreneur WL Wong, Angela holds degrees from New York University and Columbia University and has built a formidable career in venture capital and sustainable finance. As a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, she connects impact investors with social enterprises across Asia, transforming values into measurable change. Together, they form a rare partnership: equally driven, grounded in heritage, and united by a shared vision for a better world.
Their paths first crossed at a professional convention. What began as a business conversation quickly evolved into a connection far deeper. That same clarity of vision defined every detail of their wedding: intentional, elegant, and timeless. Together, they are more than a power couple; they are partners in purpose.

A Pearl-Laced Vision
The wedding design, brought to life by Nicole Froelich from Nicole Please Weddings, was an homage to two icons of timeless glamour, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, reimagined through a contemporary lens. The entire aesthetic was anchored in a refined palette of pearl, blush, silver, and linen white, interwoven with couture-level details that whispered luxury.
Pearls, Angela’s favorite motif, were the design’s quiet heroine: strands adorned the champagne tower, pearl-filled flower vases, monogrammed umbrellas and lounge pillows, and inspired the cascading tulle of lounge installations. Tables were draped in pearl-veil linens, while floral arrangements shimmered in layers of soft ivory textures beneath a transparent marquee.

A mirror-lined aisle led to a triple floral arch, a sculptural frame for the ceremony on the lawn, where guests were greeted with champagne and a view of a setting that married botanical softness with polished formality.
This combination evoked feelings of grace and soft opulence, setting the tone for a celebration steeped in tradition and beauty. Nicole Please Weddings’ attention to detail ensured that every element of the day reflected the couple’s desire for a wedding that was both meaningful and visually stunning.
Moments Of Heritage: The Chinese Tea Ceremony

At the heart of the day was a beautifully choreographed Chinese tea ceremony, held in the Main Lounge following a traditional bowing ritual. This deeply emotional segment honored family elders and paid tribute to Mark’s late father, anchoring the couple’s future in their shared cultural roots. The blend of East and West, tradition and modernity, was not simply symbolic—it was foundational. In a wedding where every detail was intentional, this tradition stood as a profound symbol of reverence, love, and legacy.
Couture Craftsmanship And Bridal Fashion
Angela’s wedding wardrobe was a true fashion journey. She began the day in a traditional Chinese kwun qua before changing into a regal gown by Nicole + Felicia Couture for the ceremony. For afternoon tea, she slipped into a refined dress from New Arrivals, and for the afterparty, she dazzled in a shimmering Heli Kalkstein creation.

But perhaps her most iconic accessory was a pair of custom-made Manolo Blahnik bridal shoes — a special-made order for the bride, arranged by Kristina Blahnik herself. The shoes were customised in Italy, going back and forth several times, and were finally shipped to Hong Kong.

Mark matched her sophistication with a bespoke white tuxedo by Dal Duca, tailored from luxurious Italian fabrics, followed by a midnight velvet suit that mirrored the evening’s mood.
A Grand Exit, A Glamorous Return
After the ceremony and a lively afternoon tea party featuring curated food stations, oysters, caviar, grazing tables, and dessert passarounds that further represented the couple’s family heritage, including traditional English scones with clotted cream and Hong Kong-style egg waffles, the couple cut a towering one-meter-tall pearl-embellished wedding cake. Inspired by
Grace Kelly’s elegance, the cake incorporated intricate lace details and, of course, pearls. They toasted with champagne poured into a tower delicately strung with pearl necklaces.
As dusk turned to night, guests lined the driveway as Angela and Mark departed in a vintage white Rolls-Royce, bound for their afterparty at The Carlyle. Beneath the glimmer of city lights, Angela surprised guests with a live rendition of an Alicia Keys ballad dedicated to Mark—a moment as stylish as it was soulful.

Sustainability Woven In
True to their values, Angela and Mark ensured the celebration left a positive footprint. Under Nicole Please Weddings’ direction, decorations were donated post-wedding to a local children’s charity. Vendors were carefully selected not only for their artistry but also for their alignment with the couple’s commitment to sustainability.
A Story Etched In Style
Angela and Mark’s wedding was not merely a beautiful celebration—it was a curated expression of who they are: grounded in heritage, committed to impact, and effortlessly elegant. Every lace appliqué, mirrored detail, and heartfelt ritual told the story of two people who honor the past, shape the future, and walk through life together with purpose and grace.
