GRUE, The Shophouse

Grue, a term that combines the colour “green” and “blue”, was coined by American philosopher Nelson Goodman in his exploration of our perception of colour. Our experiences of colour do not only stop at how we visually perceive colour but are also inevitably shaped by our cultures and languages. For example, the word “qing” in Chinese straddles both green and blue and evokes the meaning of freshness and clarity. At the same time, the Japanese term “aoi” emotionally associates the colours green and blue together. At GRUE, English artist Ben Edmunds, Korean-American artist Minku Kim and Swiss artist Yves Scherer challenge how we see colour by presenting it as a nuanced reflection of culture, raising more profound questions about the experiences that comprise our different individual perceptions of our world.

For our art enthusiasts who are coffee aficionados, a “raw coffee experience” will also be available at The Shophouse. Led by Naam Yu, founder of Handyman Roasters, guests will be able to participate in a 2-hour hands-on coffee roasting experience. Take a sip of hand-roasted coffee by Phoenix Coffee Roastery served in Steve Harrison ceramics, and indulge in delightful pastries from Plumcot Bakery.
