Stars at the 2023 BAFTAs fell into one of two fashion camps. The first espoused the glamour of minimalist monochrome – see Cate Blanchett in Maison Margiela (originally worn by the star at the 2015 Oscars); Julianne Moore in strapless Saint Laurent, over which she shrugged a feather stole; and Carey Mulligan in a clean, near-monastic Dior dress. Flying the flag for maximalism? A brigade of actors in millennium metallics and purple hues. Anya Taylor-Joy, Sheila Atim and Cynthia Erivo dazzled in gold, silver and bronze, respectively, while Viola Davis, Lashana Lynch, Angela Bassett and Jodie Turner-Smith stood out in shades ranging from violet to lilac.
