Gift-giving is hard and while we can cross our fingers for inspiration to strike as we peruse countless stores for something to buy, nothing can quite beat connecting with your loved ones over a hearty meal. Father’s Day is coming up on June 20, so be sure to give some thought as to where you might bring Dad to for lunch, dinner, or of course the bank holiday special: brunch.
Shiro
Balancing authenticity with contemporary flair, Shiro will be hosting a Father’s Day dinner over the span of the weekend. Serving elevated Japanese cuisine, Shiro has long been a popular choice amongst the corporate crowd, heralded for jet-fresh sushi and sashimi as well as flavourful, brothy ramen. The Father’s Day menu will feature only the best of the minimal, zen restaurant, with highlights including a pan-fried beef fillet and nine slice sashimi topped with rich uni and caviar for added decadence.

Boys Night Out at Caprice
Caprice seeks to impress guests by fusing traditional French cooking with contemporary innovation. For Father’s Day, the three Michelin-starred institution puts a spotlight on three signature dishes: Foie Gras en Terrine, Tartare Terre et Met (with Australian wagyu beef and Tabouriech oysters), and Pėche (with Amandine potatoes and cuttlefish). Guest will be seated in the restaurant’s private dining room, where Chef Guillaume Gaillot will set off the night’s events alongside a wine selection made by Caprice’s sommelier Victor Petiot. For families booking an extended stay, Four Seasons has several other themed Father’s Day treats including Executive Pastry Chef’s donuts, a three-course meal at The Lounge, and a takeaway menu of the hotel exclusive dishes.

Father’s Day Brunch at The Optimist
For a lavish Northern Spanish affair, make your way to the Optimist, a restaurant best known for its servings of charred goodness. A buzzing place for Azzador-inspired meals, this lush restaurant carves out its home within the hectic streets of Wan Chai. It’s an excellent place to go to for a mid-day mode repose, but even better with good company. With Dad, your best bet may be to bring him for brunch with shared Para Picar dishes, a choice of seafood or hearty steak for the main course, The Optimist’s crowd-pleasing dessert, and of course, free-flow champagne to celebrate.

Uma Nota’s contending option will be appealing to anyone who enjoys a botequim atmosphere alongside plates of tuna tartare, Californian roll, and a 21 aged T-Bone. Classic British Fare at The Chinnery
Situated on the first floor of the Mandarin Oriental, The Chinnery provides a fine space for a casual British pub lunch (coupled with exquisite service and a charming atmosphere – this is the Mandarin Oriental after all). Named after Anglo-Saxon painter George Chinnery, MO’s relatively laid-back restaurant is a call back to the colonial days of Hong Kong. In its opening, the restaurant was one of the firsts to serve true British comforts like shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and tikka masala. They continue to do so 80 years onwards while also being home to the world’s largest collection of single malt whiskies.

Feng Wei Brunch at Hutong
If a spicy Sichuan feast sounds appropriate, you and your family are cordially invited to challenge your taste buds with a mouth-watering 12 dish menu that features Alaskan Crab & Shrimp Salad (marinated in Hutong chilli sauce), Steamed Hokkaido Scallop with Hunan Chilli and Garlic and a Sichuan Chilli Peppered Suckling Pig. For an added bonus, Hutong’s Feng Wei Brunch also comes with a free-flow option of Veuve Clicquot Champagne as well as cocktails, sake and beer.

Duck & Waffle
While it may still be titled brunch, Duck & Waffle’s celebratory antics will follow into the night; presenting a taste-blending menu with grilled Duroc pork chop served with mustard greens, Nigella seeds, and cumin yogurt. For fathers, a complimentary cocktail (given the grandiose name of The Forefather) is on the house, as cheers to the man held closely in your heart.

A Steak Soirée at La Vache!
Treat Dad to what he enjoys best: premium steak paired with wine of his choice and unlimited house-frites. And for this, you’ll need to head to one of La Vache’s two outposts (the third one on its way) where a Father’s Day steak soirée is sure to ensue. The entrecôte restaurant is your typical French brasserie adorned with ritzy red upholstery and quirky wall illustrations of Parisian spots. Set the night to some lively French jazz and enjoy yourself, for the night is straightforward – La Vache strictly serves a prime ribeye (heaped with their secret house sauce) and a famously good salad and crisp house fries. Of course, their wine menu, on the other hand, might be another story.

Sophisticated Shanghainese at Ye Shanghai
If the man of the hour is fond of sustainable Shanghainese gastronomy, there is no better place to take him than Ye Shanghai. Ye Shanghai has been a pillar of the Chinese cuisine scene in Hong Kong, borrowing inspiration from a by-gone era of Sin City. Their newly earned Michelin star back in January is proof of this, though to see for yourself you will have to try some of the restaurant’s star dishes including their drunken chicken and stir-fried river shrimp. The restaurant’s name might be a tiny misnomer though, for Ye Shanghai serves up the best of Jiangsu and Zhejiang cuisine as well. Now at K-11 Musea, it’s a choice place to spend Father’s Day while surrounded by the metropolis lights of Tsim Sha Tsui.
